Wagga Wagga Hotel
A new community point destination through new life for a heritage mill.
New hotels in regional centres can feel like they have no connection with the local community. We knew it was vital for the New Mill to be as much a destination for locals, as visitors. So the plaza became a key part of the project.
Become designed the $37m New Mill hotel to be the cornerstone of a new city centre hospitality, commercial, retail and residential precinct.
To do this we realised we need to celebrate the Heritage listed Murrumbidgee Mill and creatively incorporate it as a working component of the new development. We achieved that by including the function and conference centre within the former grain store, creating flexible spaces capable of hosting private and corporate events of more than 300 guests.
A number of contemporary new buildings were then focused around a new public plaza providing 148 bedrooms including 18 Heritage loft suites within the converted Mill.
A range of hospitality venues including lobby bar, cafe and restaurant were designed to spill out onto the plaza creating a welcoming and dynamic destination for both guests and the locals.
